Sympathy card

I seem to be in need of so many sympathy cards these days.  So very sad to lose loved ones, isn't it?  I always hope that my cards bring some comfort during times of loss.

This seems to be my sort of "go to" card for condolence sending...with a few variations along the way.  I love this daisy memory box die and it always works up so beautifully. 

The dotted line is from the Paper Smooches Dots and Dash dies.  A cool set to have on hand.
The cardstock is Papertrey Ink cardstock....a nice thick cardstock.

And the sympathy sentiment is one I got at a stamp show many years ago.  It stamps a nice clean image every time.


Well, today it is a "Rainy Day in Georgia"...a great day to craft or clean out closets.  Which should I do? I've already cleaned out a closet this morning so maybe I will treat myself with a little crafting time!

With Sympathy

I came across this die cut the other day that I must have cut a while back.  So long ago that I don't even remember.  I think this is from my days of Cricut-ing...before I made the switch to Silhouette-ing.  What I'm saying is that I think this may have been cut on my Cricut.  Don't know.  Not important.

I backed it with some black and then adhered it to a white cardstock base.

I added a few pearls and a heat embossed sentiment and left it as is.  I think it's suitable for a sympathy card.

With Sympathy

I was so happy with the Wedding Wishes card I made the other day which you can see HERE that I made another even simpler version for a sympathy card.

I used the Simon Says Stamp daisy die and Stampin' Up Pool Party Ink and paper.
I just inlaid the flower.
Uh....easy.  Almost embarrassing it's so easy.   I'm hanging my head in shame.  Not.  I love the simplicity of this.  They don't all have to be blinged, layered, ribboned, twined, SUSAN!
*sigh*....

 Here you see the inlay.  The nice thing about using the metal dies as opposed to a machine die cutter at times is that you get that nice rounded edges that only the obsessed notice.
I'm obsessed.  I admit it.

First Cards of 2013

One of my New Year's "goals" is to do less cards just for the heck of it....and get back to some scrapbooking.  I tend to make cards because they are pretty but then I don't want to send them and I keep them for my collection.  Dumb.  But it is a fact.

But I decided to make a couple of sympathy cards last night with a cut file that is available for free at Bird's Cards.  The link for this particular file is HERE.  This site is wonderful for free files that Bird so generously shares. Anyway, this is a really pretty Calla Lily file.

Here are my versions:

One thing I did differently is this is one herkin' (thanks, Donna!) big card!  It's 8 1/2 by 5 1/2....I don't usually make cards that size but I have some invitation envelopes that size and it's time to start using them.

Pretty and elegant that file is....and it cut beautifully on my Silhouette Cameo.
I used Papertrey Ink paper and ribbon as well as a little sentiment I've had for many years.

Sympathy Card

Sympathy cards....not the "funnest" to make, perhaps, but it's nice knowing you are making for someone who may receive a bit of comfort from it.
A friend on one of my tennis teams lost her mother a few days ago and I made this card to mail to her.

 I used Basic Grey's Little Black Dress papers.  The border was punched with a Martha Stewart punch (one of my favorites!).  The 3 layer flower is from Recollections and had a little Glimmer Mist Sprayed on it.  The brad if you're interested is from Basic Grey....I know we should give credit or acknowledgement for the products we used in cases someone wants to know or use them too...but seriously...a brad, an eyelet?....where a clear button came from?  What 4 types of adhesive I used?  LOL!  OK, I digress....
Here's a closer up photo of the flower...it has a little gauzy shimmery layer which is so pretty to me....

The sentiment is from Hero Arts Everyday Sayings....a wonderful stamp set that I've used several times.

Simple Sympathy Card

I think there are years where I don't have the need for a sympathy card.  Sadly I've needed several the past few weeks.

I made several of these cards yesterday...very simple and fast but with a touch of elegance, I think.  (slight glare from the light and glitter on the bottom left but it is what it is!)

I used paper from My Minds Eye called Grand Vignettes by Carina Gardiner (it has a glittery look to it...sorry, Donna!...but I love me some GLITTER and SHINE!).  The butterfly is a Hero Arts stamp from the Vintage Engraving Set. 

 I stamped on black with Versamark and embossed it with Bridal Ranger Embossing Tinsel....I love that stuff....it is so pretty when melted!

 The sentiment is from a Heidi Grace set and I also embossed it.  No ribbon or other bulky embellishments were added so that they'd mail easily.

I made four of these in less than an hour.  Sometimes fast is good....
